VESTAL, N.Y. -- The Binghamton women's lacrosse team lost another heartbreaker to visiting Canisius, 12-11 on Sunday afternoon at the Bearcat Sports Complex.
The Bearcats got behind early, as Canisius jumped out to a 4-1 lead with 17:20 left in the first half. Binghamton responded, scoring two goals to cut the lead to 4-3 with 12:54 on the clock. However, the Griffins scored the next three in a row and carried a 7-4 lead into halftime.
Binghamton started the second half strong, scoring three quick goals, including a free position shot by freshman Emily Thon to even the score at 7-7 only 2:13 into the second half. Canisius rallied, building a 10-7 advantage with 20:18 remaining in the second half. With a free position goal by sophomore Kaitlyn Concialdi at the 6:49 mark, the lead was cut to 11-10. However, the Binghamton surge was not quite enough and the Griffins snuck out of the Bearcat Sports Complex with one goal, 12-11 victory.
Canisius was led by senior Chelsea Martinez who scored four goals and added one assist. Senior Ashley Gray added three goals for the Griffs.
Binghamton had ten different athletes score points and was led by sophomore Beth Moore and Thon who each scored two goals.
Binghamton heads out on the road to take on Bucknell on Wednesday, March 18 at 4 p.m.
