Binghamton loses to Central Connecticut State 15-6

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.--The Bearcats (0-6) played their second game in less than 24 hours on Sunday, falling to Central Connecticut State (3-4) 15-6 to conclude a weekend road trip.

The teams traded series of goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, with each side netting three goals. The Blue Devils opened the scoring just 36 seconds into the game, but Binghamton evened the score just over a minute later when sophomore midfielder Laura Gabbamonte (Glen Cove, N.Y.) scored off a feed from freshman attacker Kristen Disch (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown). Less than two minutes later, Central scored a pair of goals in a span of 25 seconds to take a 3-1 lead. However, Disch than scored both of her goals in a span of 2:32 to tie the score at 3-3. Junior attacker Ashley Cincotta (Cortland, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Allison Lak (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) each recorded assists on the goals by Disch.

With the score tied 3-3 and 20 minutes left in the first half, the Blue Devils took over the game, scoring the next nine goals to take a 12-3 lead with 17:14 left in the second half. The first four of those goals came in the first half, giving Central Connecticut a 7-3 lead heading into intermission.

Binghamton got a goal from Lak at the 15:44 mark of the second period. Gabbamonte added her second goal of the game at the 5:30 mark and freshman center Lauren Wetherell (Bethpage, N.Y.) closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 4:19 mark. Junior goalie Allison Steinberg (Pearl River, N.Y.) had 11 saves in goal.

The Bearcats return home this week for three games. The homestand opens with a non-conference game against St. Mary's (Calif.) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Binghamton will then return to conference play over the weekend with games against Vermont and New Hampshire. All three games are scheduled to be played at the East Gym Complex.
