Box Score

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Junior Ali Flury had a game-high five goals and added an assist to lead No. 20 Denver University to an 18-15 win over Binghamton in the Bearcats season opener on Friday afternoon at Duquesne University.

The Bearcats jumped out to an early with 28:41 to go in the first half. At the 18:04 mark, off a goal by sophomore captain
Beth Moore Binghamton took a 3-2 advantage. However, Denver dominated the rest of the first half, running off four goals straight that was part of a 12-4 run to put the Pioneers up 14-7 at the half.

Binghamton stormed back in the second half, out-shooting Denver 23-14. The Bearcats held the Pioneers without a goal for the last 21 minutes and scored the last five goals of the game. However, it was not enough to overcome the halftime deficit.

Lisa Illig and freshman Lis Zuern led the Bearcats with four goals apiece, while Illig added an assist. Moore found the back of the net off three attempts, while fellow sophomore Kate Tesi added a pair. Sophomore Ali Castiglie also added a pair of goals while dropping one assist. Sophomore Siobhan Menz pulled in a game-high three ground balls.

"We're such a young team; I thought we had a lot of composure in the second half. We pulled it together and I was very proud of the way that we played the game," head coach Tony Zostant commented after the game. "This was a great opportunity; we think that Denver will be able to play with anyone in the nation."

Binghamton hosts it's first home match of the season on Tuesday, March 3, against Canisius. Game time is 3 p.m.
