Binghamton women's lacrosse defeated by Le Moyne 15-5

Solvay, N.Y.-- 2006 Preseason Co-MAAC Player of the Year, Liz Hewitt of Le Moyne (1-1) scored four goals leading the Dolphins to defeat Binghamton (0-3) 15-5 Saturday afternoon at Solvay High School.

Freshman Shannon Frawley (Pearl River, N.Y.) and junior Heather Grose (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each netted a goal in the first half for the Bearcats. Frawley's goal tied the game at 1-1 with 22:17 left in the half on a free position shot, while Grose's goal came off an assist by classmate Anna Riordan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) with 15:22 left to play in the half. The Bearcats trailed 8-2 at the break.

In the second half, Hewitt scored her third goal of the game and the first goal of the half less than two and half minutes into it. The Bearcats followed with three straight goals. Junior Danielle Edwards scored less than two minutes following Hewitt's third goal on an assist by Riordan. With 20:42 left to play in the half freshman Julia Demuth (Jordan, N.Y.) scored on a free position shot. The final Bearcat goal came on an assist by Grose, sophomore Kristen Marsjanik (Webster, N.Y.) netted the ball 33 seconds following Demuth's goal. Le Moyne finished the game scoring the final six goals.

Sophomore Sandra Alvarez (Port Washington, N.Y.) made 13 saves for Binghamton.

The Bearcats will travel to West Palm, Florida for the Spring Fling Tournament for a pair of games on Monday and Wednesday. On Monday, Binghamton plays Iona at 7 p.m. and on Wednesday they play American at noon.
