Marist women's lacrosse tops Binghamton 21-5
KINGSTON, N.Y. -- The Marist women's lacrosse team earned its
third victory of the season with a 21-5 victory over Binghamton
on Tuesday afternoon at Dietz Stadium.
The Bearcats (0-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from senior
Heather Grose (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.)
and junior Leanne Musso (Auburn, N.Y.)
and held the hosts scoreless for the contest's first 10 minutes.
Marist responded in emphatic fashion, running off nine unanswered
goals to close out the half and 11 straight overall to put the
game out of reach. The Red Foxes poured it on in the final 30
minutes of action, outscoring the Bearcats by a 12-3 margin.
Sophomore Carolyn Sumcizk led four MU players to score at least
three goals with a game-high six points on four goals and a pair
of assists en route to posting the school's second-highest single-game
scoring output in program history.
Junior Anna Riordan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was the only Bearcat
to post a multi-point effort, finishing with a goal and two assists.
Despite the result, sophomore Kara Slowik
(Warners, N.Y.) was again a steady contributor on BU's backline,
tying game-highs with five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Sophomore C.J. Cuneo (East Northport,
N.Y) made her first start of the spring between the pipes for
the Bearcats, turning away 16 attempts in a losing effort.
