POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Freshman midfielder Amanda Tuck scored the game-winning goal with 27 seconds remaining in the first overtime period to lead Marist to a 12-11 win over the Binghamton University's women's lacrosse team in non-conference action Monday afternoon at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. This was the final non-conference game of the year for the Bearcats.
Marist got on the scoreboard first before the Bearcats would go on a 3-1 run, featuring goals from juniors Ali Castiglie and Beth Moore and freshman attack Kimberly McGeever to take a lead with 14:59 left in the first half. However, the Red Foxes would reclaim the lead with a 4-1 run before Moore would score her second of the game to cut the Marist lead to one, 6-5 at halftime.
Marist started to pull away in the second half, taking an 8-5 lead when Moore scored two goals in a span of 2:02 to get Binghamton within a goal, 9-8, with 18:40 left in regulation. The Red Foxes scored again before freshman Kristen Stone and Castiglie would score to knot it at 10-10. Again Marist reclaimed the lead and Moore scored her fifth of the game to send it into overtime.
The Red Foxes won the draw control to start the first overtime and after scoring ran out the time in both overtime periods.
Moore led the Bearcats with five goals and one assist and McGeever dished out four assists and scored a goal. Moore (36) surpassed Danielle Edwards (33) for top spot on the Bearcats All-time season records for goals in a season. The junior is also currently the third leading scorer in Binghamton's women's lacrosse history (72) behind Heather Grose (84) and Leanne Musso (89).
