VESTAL, N.Y. -- Sophomore captain Beth Moore scored four goals, including the game winner, to lead Binghamton to a 10-9 overtime win over visiting Monmouth on Friday afternoon at the Bearcat Sports Complex.
Monmouth jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first three goals of the game. Binghamton answered at the 15:38 mark, to make the score 3-1. Both teams would go on to score once more in the half, and Monmouth took a 4-2 advantage into halftime.
The Bearcats and Hawks traded goals in the second half until Binghamton was able to put two in the net back-to-back with 13:43 remaining to cut Monmouth's lead to 7-6. With 5:35 left in the second half, junior Lizzie Wright threaded a pass to the cutting freshman Emily Thon who evened the score at 7-7. Moore followed up with what appeared to be the winning goal with 1:07 remaining in the game. However, junior Megan Brennan won the draw control and took it right down the field and scored sending the game to overtime.
In the first overtime period Moore found the back of the next with 41 seconds remaining. In the second overtime period, the Bearcats protected their lead over the Hawks, and ran the clock out for the win.
Binghamton in is action next when the Bearcats host Canisius on Sunday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
