WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Senior captain Megan Brennan led the Monmouth with five goals to carry the hosting Muhawks over the Binghamton women's lacrosse team (0-4, 0-0 AE) 12-10 on Sunday afternoon.
Although Monmouth was the first on the board, the Bearcats rattled off five of the next six goals to claim a 5-2 lead with 12:48 left in the half. Juniors Ali Castiglie, Beth Moore, sophomore Lis Zuern and freshmen Lindsay Angelillo and Katherin Hunsberger all scored within the stretch. However, the Muhawks closed the gap with two goals to end the first period.
Red-shirt junior Lizzie Wright got the Bearcats back on track with a goal to start the period and take a 6-4 lead with 27:42 to go in the game. Monmouth kept it close and grabbed a 8-7 lead before Angelillo and Wright would both score their second goals of the evening to take back the lead with 16:17 on the clock. However the Muhawks scored four of the next five, including two from Brennan to close out the game.
Castiglie, Moore, Wright, Angelillo all scored on a pair for the game while Zuern and Hunsberger each added one.
Binghamton outshot Momouth 39-25 but only converted on two of nine free position shots while the Muhawks found the net in three of four attempts.
Binghamton is back home on Wednesday March 24 hostin LeMoyne at 7 p.m.
