SYRACUSE, N.Y.--Binghamton women's lacrosse (0-2) got a first-hand
view of one of the nation's premier lacrosse programs Tuesday
night, as they were defeated by No. 13 Syracuse, 21-2, in the
Carrier Dome.
The host Orangewomen (3-1), who came into Tuesday's contest ranked
13th in the most recent IWLCA poll, jumped out to an early 2-0
lead before sophomore Leanne Musso (Auburn,
N.Y.) put the Bearcats on the board with her fifth goal of the
young season, an unassisted tally at the 21:15 mark.
That, however, was as close as the Bearcat women would get, as
Syracuse orchestrated an impressive 14-1 half-ending run to give
the Orangewomen a commanding 16-2 edge after 30 minutes of action.
Junior Danielle Edwards (Horseheads,
N.Y.) netted Binghamton's only other tally, her second goal of
the season. Senior Lauren Wetherell
(Bethpage, N.Y.) also added an assist.
Facing a high powered Syracuse attack, the Bearcats were outshot
29-6 in the first half and 40-11 on the evening. The Orangewomen
also held a commanding edge in draw controls, finishing with
a 20-5 advantage.
Sophomore Sandra
Alvarez (Port Washington, N.Y.) had 13 saves for the Bearcats.
Binghamton heads back to Syracuse
to take on preseason MAAC favorite LeMoyne Saturday afternoon.
Game time is set for noon. |
