Binghamton women's lacrosse topples defending A-10 champions Temple

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Sophomore captain Beth Moore scored four goals to lead Binghamton to a 16-11 win over Temple University on Friday afternoon at Geasey Field.

The Bearcats jumped out to an early 3-1 lead with 12:20 left to go in the first half off a goal by sophomore
Kate Tesi. However, Temple stormed back scoring four of the next five goals to take a 5-4 advantage with 5:39 remaining on the clock in the first. The Bearcats answered by reeling off the final three goals of the half to take a 6-5 lead into the locker-room.

In the second half it was all Binghamton for the first 21:54 minutes as the Bearcats poured in nine goals by seven different athletes to go up 15-5. Temple rallied, scoring the next three goals, but it was not enough to overcome Binghamton's lead.

Binghamton outshot Temple 29-28, and was anchored in goal by sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Scott who made 14 saves.

Sophomores Lisa Illig and Ali Castiglie each found the back of the net on three attempts, while Tesi added a pair of goals. Freshman Meg Brown had an all-around game scoring a goal, dropping an assist, picking up two ground balls and causing three turnovers.

"It was a great performance by our team, I'm very pleased at both ends of the field. We were very poised," head coach Tony Zostant commented after the game. "It's a great win for our program. I can't say enough about our defense and how we played."

Binghamton hosts it's first home match of the season on Tuesday, March 10 at 4 p.m. against St. Bonaventure.
