Women's lacrosse falls 18-3 at UMBC
Bearcats fall to 0-2 in America East Conference Play
BALTIMORE, Md. -- The UMBC women's lacrosse team (4-7, 1-2 America East) scored 11 unanswered goals to open the game and cruised to its first conference victory of the season, easily dispatching Binghamton (1-8, 0-2 AE), 18-3, in America East action at UMBC Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The defending America East regular season champions stormed out of the gate as Jen Kaspar scored three times leading eight Retriever players to find the back of the cage in the first 30 minutes of action, to create a 12-1 advantage at the break. The hosts finished the game on a 6-2 run to produce the final margin.
Kaspar led all scorers on the afternoon with a game-high six points (four goals, two assists).
Senior Erika Travis (Geneva, N.Y.) paced the Bearcats with a two-goal effort while freshman Kate Gromatsky (Smithtown, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with her sixth goal of the season.
Junior Sandra Alvarez (Port Washington, N.Y.) minded the net for the entire 60 minutes, making 12 saves.
The Bearcats host Vermont on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
