VESTAL, N.Y.-- Senior Carter Foote scored five goals to lead Vanderbilt to a 23-11 win over Binghamton (1-10) in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Wednesday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Sophomore Liz Zuern opened up the scoring at the 25:28 mark before junior midfielder Beth Moore helped stun the visiting Commodores with another goal and an early 2-0 lead. Vanderbilt struck back, scoring three goals in under a minute to claim their first lead of game.
Binghamton answered with a 5-2 goal run to claim a 7-5 lead with 10:18 left in the first half. However the Commodores scored seven of the next eight goals to claim a 12-8 lead at the half.
Junior attack Ali Castiglie quickly scored a goal to start the second half and pull the Bearcats within three, but that would be the closest Binghamton would get for the remainder of the game. Vanderbilt scored 11 of the next 13 goals, including three from Foote to close out the game.
Binghamton was led by Castiglie, Moore, Zuern and freshmen Katherine Hunsberger and midfielder Kristin Stone who each scored two goals. Red-shirt junior Lizzie Wright added a goal while freshman defender Lindsey Angelillo added an assist for the Bearcats.
outshot Vanderbilt 22-16 in the first half, but only managed
12 shots to Vanderbilt's 21 in the second half. Vanderbilt also
edged Binghamton 21-15 in draw controls.
