Binghamton women's lacrosse falls to Vermont 22-14

BURLINGTON, V.T.-- Sophomore Samantha Stern and senior Sara Buxton each scored four goals to lead Vermont to a 22-14 win over visiting Binghamton (1-9) in an America East conference women's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon at Moulton Winder Field.

Buxton helped the Catamounts break into the scoring column first at the 28:43 mark before junior midfielder Beth Moore struck back with 27:54 left in the first half. Vermont scored two more in a span of 20 seconds to grab a 3-1 lead before junior attack Ali Castiglie continued her strong play with a goal for Binghamton.

However, the Catamounts scored eight of the next eleven goals to take a 11-5 lead into the half.

The Bearcats cut the lead to 12-9 with a goal from sophomore Lis Zuern, but Vermont answered with five straight goals to seal the game.

Zuern scored a game high four goals for the Bearcats while adding two assists. Castiglie and Moore each added three goals while freshman attack Kimberly McGeever scored two and freshman defender Lindsey Angelillo and freshman midfielder Kristin Stone each scored one to round out the scoring for the Bearcats.

Vermont outshot Binghamton 42-32 for the game.

Next up, Binghamton hosts Vanderbilt on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
