Tony Zostant named Binghamton University head women's lacrosse coach

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton University athletic department has announced the hiring of Tony Zostant as its head women's lacrosse coach. He arrives from St. Bonaventure, following six impressive seasons as the Bonnie's head coach.

Zostant compiled a record of 61-37 during his tenure at St. Bonaventure. He was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2003. He led the Bonnies to a school-record 14 wins in 2006 as well as their first-ever IWLCA national ranking (No. 18 that same year). Four times during Zostant's six years at the helm, St. Bonaventure qualified for the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Currently, Zostant is the head coach of the Team Haudenesaunee (Native American) Under-19 Team which is competing at the IFWLA World Championships in Ontario, Canada. As of Aug. 6, his squad is 3-0 in pool play.

Prior to arriving at St. Bonaventure, Zostant was the head coach at SUNY Brockport in 2000 and 2001. He guided the program to a 19-11 record during his stay and was named the 2001 SUNYAC Coach of the Year. From 1995-99, Zostant was the head coach at Nazareth, where he had a record of 49-18.

Overall, Zostant has been a head women's lacrosse coach 12 years. He has an overall record of 129-66 (.661) and his career winning percentage ranks 14th among all active head coaches.

"Tony brings a great deal of experience in building winning programs," Binghamton Director of Athletics Dr. Joel Thirer said. "We have great hope that given the resources he will have to work with, along with our new Bearcat Sport Complex, that Tony will create a winning tradition for Bearcat Women's Lacrosse."

"I would like to thank Athletic Director Joel Thirer and Jim Norris for providing me with such a great opportunity at Binghamton University," Zostant said. "Dr. Thirer has a true vision and commitment to moving the program forward as evidenced by the new lacrosse/soccer game and practice facilities. I am very excited about becoming a member of the Bearcat coaching staff and am looking forward to leading the team in a new direction this fall."

Binghamton University will enter its seventh season as an intercollegiate program in 2008. Zostant replaces Emily Edmonston, who coached the Bearcats the previous three seasons.
