PHILADELPHIA. - Binghamton wrestling had two placewinners and placed ninth as a team at the Colonial Athletic Association Championship, held at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on the campus of Drexel University.
Hofstra captured its fifth consecutive conference title with 125 points, followed by Old Dominion (76.5), Drexel (65), Rider (62), Sacred Heart (45), James Madison (38), George Mason (31.5), Boston University (23.5), Binghamton (15), Wagner (5) and Campbell (0.5).
Patterson, the No. 5 seed, advanced to the semifinals after scoring decisions of 4-2 and 9-4 in Friday's competition. He then ran into nationally fifth-ranked Jon Masa of Hofstra in the semifinals, and was handed a technical fall loss. Patterson then rolled to a 13-2 major decision over Sean Eagan (Sacred Heart) before dropping the third-place match 9-3 to No. 2 Mike Kessler of Rider. He went 3-2 in the tournament and completed his inaugural collegiate season with a team-high 19 victories.
Wade lost an 8-6 decision to the No. 3 seed Sherwood Fendryk (Sacred Heart) in his opening match on Friday, but won back-to-back matches in the consolation bracket to reach the third-place bout. On Saturday, Wade toppled Scott Yorko of James Madison, 16-5 and then knocked off No. 5 Ryan Cunningham of Rider, 12-9. He had a second chance against Fendryk for third place but lost 9-3.
Wade went 2-2 in the tournament and finished the season with an 18-10 mark, including a team-high six pins.
