"It was a great dual meet for our guys," head coach Pat Popolizio said. "Everyone competed very well and we had some big wins from Leigh (Tobias), Anwar (Goeres) and Kyle (Fried). We finally had our full lineup back and it's a positive sign that our guys are improving and we are heading in the right direction."
Sophomore 141-pound Anwar Goeres (Holley, N.Y.), mysteriously absent in the first CAA rankings, scored a 5-4 decision over third-ranked Joey Whitaker to extend his win streak. Goeres is a perfect 5-0 this season, including a win over the 14th-ranked wrestler in the country to open the season.
Senior 149-pound Kyle Fried (Rock Hill, N.Y.), ranked 16th in the country, scored a 13-3 major decision over defending CAA champion and NCAA qualifier Mike Roberts. Fried improved to 4-0 this season.
"Kyle's win was the biggest of the day," Popolizio said. "He made a statement - beating the defending champion like that. It shows the progress he's made made from last season."
Sophomore 174-pound Josh Patterson (Wayne, N.Y.), ranked 15th in the nation, returned from an injury that sidelined him for three weeks and earned a 6-2 decision. Patterson is undefeated at 4-0.
"Josh looked good for the first time back," Popolizio said. "He's getting close to 100%."
Freshman Leigh Tobias (Binghamton, N.Y.) picked up his second pin of the season, needing just 2:34 to end his match at 133 pounds.
Binghamton will host Princeton in its home opener at 7 p.m. on December 15.
