AMHERST, N.Y. -- Binghamton wrestling (7-3) split 10 matches but came up three points short in a 19-16 loss to host Buffalo (6-1-1) Sunday evening at Alumni Arena. The Bearcats were competing without two starters, including reigning All-American and nationally-ranked senior 184-pound Josh Patterson, who is nursing an injury. The loss to the longtime SUNY rival Bulls snapped Binghamton's six-match win streak.
Freshman Nate Schiedel improved to 8-1 in duals, 11-3 overall with a 5-4 decision at 184. Junior 141-pound Anwar Goeres earned a 3-0 decision to lift his record to 19-5 overall, 7-2 in duals. Other winners included sophomore 165-pound Justin Lister (13-4 overall) and sophomore 174-pound Matt Kaylor (19-10), who each bumped up a weight class and earned a decision. Junior Corey Waite (17-9, 7-3 duals) rolled to a major decision at heavyweight.
Binghamton next competes at Penn next Saturday afternoon.
