|Four BU wrestlers chosen in first Colonial Athletic Association rankings|
Four Binghamton University wrestlers have earned inclusion in the first conference rankings put out by the Colonial Athletic Association. The team is also ranked sixth among the CAA's 11 schools.
Senior 157-pound Joe Privitere (Johnson City, N.Y.), freshman heavyweight Jon Gregg (Johnsonville, N.Y./LaSalle Academy), sophomore 141-pound Josh Ruff (Bainbridge, N.Y./Guilford-Bainbridge), and junior 174-pound Jeff McAveney (New Fairfield, Conn.) each earned a top-5 ranking at his respective weight class.
Privitere is ranked third at 157, behind two nationally-ranked wrestlers from Rider and Hofstra. He is 2-1 overall, and currently on the mend after suffering a minor knee injury during last Friday's match against Eastern Michigan. Privitere, a former NCAA Division II qualifier, is 84-31 all-time at Binghamton.
Gregg has ably taken over at heavyweight for NCAA Division I participant Craig Tefft, who became BU's first Division I qualifier last winter. Gregg, who is 5-3 overall with two pins, is also nursing a knee injury.
Ruff is off to the best start of any Bearcats wrestler in 2002-03. He is ranked fourth at a very competitive weight class (141). Thus far this winter, Ruff is 3-0 in duals and 6-2 overall. Five of those six wins have come by either major decision (8 or more points) or technical fall (15 points or more).
McAveney is BU's fourth wrestler in the conference rankings. He is fifth at 174 after opening his season with a 6-7 record. McAveney has two dual wins, including one by major decision.
The Bearcats resume competition on December 20 at the Delaware Beast of the East tournament. The open tournament will feature individuals from top programs such as Ohio, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Buffalo and Bloomsburg, as well as CAA rivals Drexel, Old Dominion and George Mason.
