falls to Columbia 26-17 in final dual match
Ruff sets school record for dual wins in a season
NEW YORK, N.Y.--Sophomore Josh Ruff (Bainbridge, N.Y.) scored a 17-1 technical fall over his Columbia opponent on Friday night, setting a new school record for dual wins in a season in the process. The Bearcats lost six out of 10 matches on the evening, however, and fell to their hosts 26-17. The match was the final dual match of the season.
Ruff's win improved his record in duals to 16-1 this season, eclipsing the old mark of 15 that had been set several times before, including once by current senior Joe Privitere (Johnson City, N.Y.). Ruff had tied the old mark with a 9-3 win over an East Stroudsburg foe on Wednesday evening. In just his second collegiate season, Ruff owns a 20-3 career dual record. Overall this season he is 26-6, bringing his career record to 44-10.
Also scoring wins against Columbia were freshman John Gartiser (Tuxedo, N.Y.) at 133, sophomore Rob Sckalor (Chester, N.Y.) at 157 and sophomore Jerome Joe (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) at 184. Sckalor posted a 6-3 decision and improved to 18-6 overall on the season and 10-2 in duals. Joe was a 10-7 winner and improves to 11-3 in dual matches this season. Gartiser won by forfeit.
The Bearcats will be off until March 7-8, when they participate in the Colonial Athletic Association conference championship. Binghamton will look to send at least one individual to the Division I NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
