Binghamton wrestling falls to Drexel 30-15

VESTAL, N.Y.-- In its home opener, Binghamton wrestling (2-4) dropped a 30-15 decision to Colonial Athletic Association foe Drexel Friday night from West Gym. The visiting Dragons (4-2) won six of the nine contested matches to overcome three straight Bearcats wins at 133, 141 and 149.

Freshman 141-pound Brandon Toro-Segarra (Brentwood, N.Y.) and sophomore 149-pound Nate Patterson (Ontario, N.Y.) registered back-to-back pins to spark Binghamton. Toro-Segarra pinned Greg Jensen in 3:26 for his second fall in three duals, and Patterson needed just 1:24 to pin Kyle Bub for his fourth dual match win of the young season. Freshman 133-pound Kareem Naguib (Clifton Park, N.Y.) earned the team's other three points with a 9-4 decision over William Martin.

"Our two pins at 141 and 149 were impressive," head coach Pat Popolizio said. "But unfortunately some of the other matches didn't swing our way. I thought there were three or four that could've gone either way tonight."

Freshman 174-pound Josh Patterson (Ontario, N.Y.) gave a strong effort against 20th-ranked Nick Kozar, losing a 5-2 decision. Patterson is 4-2 in duals and 13-5 overall.

"Josh looked good," Popolizio said. "The kid he wrestled is experienced and very tough ... nationally-ranked. That's where we want our guys to be."

Binghamton heads to Doylestown, Pa. on Saturday for dual matches with Millersville and host Delaware Valley.
