FULLERTON, Calif. -- Binghamton 184-pound senior wrestler Josh Patterson was defeated by top-ranked Max Askren of Missouri, 14-7, at the 44th Annual NWCA All Star Classic, held Sunday afternoon at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Gym. The All Star Classic was a dual meet format comprised of bouts between high-ranking wrestlers at each weight class.
Askren put up four points in the first period with a takedown and reversal, but was reversed by Patterson to end the first three minutes of action, 4-2. Askren chose down to start the second period and turned Patterson for a reversal and four point lead. Patterson chose to start the third period in the neutral position and Patterson took Askren down. Askren secured his third reversal of the match and locked up six points through takedowns with an additional point added for his 4:18 of riding time.
Patterson, ranked ninth at 184 pounds, was coming off a fifth-place showing at the season-opening BU Open one week ago.
