Binghamton wrestlers Patterson and Backus selected to CAA All-Rookie Team

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Binghamton University wrestlers Josh Patterson (Ontario, N.Y.) and Ed Backus (Mohawk, N.Y.) have been selected to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team for the 2006-07 season. One wrestler was chosen at each of the 10 weight classes.

Patterson enjoyed a stellar first year for the Bearcats, advancing to the NCAA Championship at 174 pounds after placing third at the conference meet. He finished his freshman season with a 27-12 record. He was runnerup at the Navy Classic and also placed sixth at the Nittany Lion Open. Patterson was 16-4 in dual matches, helping the Bearcats to a 10-10 mark.

Backus won 10 matches at 197 pounds, including eight duals. He scored big wins in duals against Bloomsburg and Buffalo, and won three matches by pin.
