Binghamton wrestling goes 1-3 at Northeast Dual

TROY, N.Y. -- Binghamton wrestling (1-4) went 1-3 at the Journeyman/Brute Northeast Duals, held Saturday at Hudson Valley CC. The Bearcats posted a 42-6 win over American International but lost to No. 3 Oklahoma State (47-3), Lehigh (35-10) and Appalachian State (35-9).

Injuries played a role in the day's results, as the Bearcats had to forfeit at heavyweight in all four matches, and were without two nationally-ranked starters in three of the four matches.

Senior 149-pound Kyle Fried (Rock Hill, N.Y.), ranked 14th in the nation, scored BU's lone win against the Cowboys, earning a 4-2 decision. OSU racked up four pins and two technical falls in the day's opening match. Fried was injured in the match, however, and could not compete in the remaining three matches.

The Bearcats turned the tables in their match with AIC, totalling three pins and two major decisions.

Binghamton sophomore 141-pound Anwar Goeres (Holley, N.Y.) went 3-0 with two pins and a major decision. Goeres, who pinned the 14th-ranked wrestler in the nation in his BU debut, needed just 1:36 to end his match with AIC. He then scored a 13-2 major decision against Lehigh and another pin - in 3:50 over Appalachian State.

Freshman 125-pound Tyler Malmberg (Marathon, N.Y.) went 2-1 and sophomore 197-pound Corey Waite (N,chols, N.Y.) went 2-2 on the day.

Binghamton will next wrestle CAA foe Boston University December 8 in Albany.
