BU wrestling in second place halfway through NYS Championship
Four Bearcats advance to Sunday's semifinals at West Gym

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton wrestling had a solid first day as host of the 42nd Annual New York State Intercollegiate Championships, fueled by and Asics. The Bearcats advanced four wrestlers to the semifinals and sit in second place in the team standings. Columbia leads the 19-team field with 87.5 points, followed by BU (82), Army (75.5), Nassau CC (60) and Hofstra (59) to round out the top five.

Reaching the semifinals were three top-seeds in sophomore 184-pound Nate Schiedel, junior 165-pound Justin Lister and junior 157-pound Matt Kaylor and second-seeded sophomore 197-pound Cody Reed.

Schiedel, ranked 11th in the nation and the top-seed, posted two pins and a major decision. He improved to 25-4 overall. Lister won bith his matches by pin and Reed produced a pin and a decision. Kaylor had to wrestle just one match and posted a 9-7 decision for his 20th win of the season (20-5).

The semifinals and consolation matches begin at 10 a.m. Sunday. The Coaches' Awards and Hall of Fame presentations are slated for 1:15 p.m. with finals and placement matches following at 1:30 p.m.
