BU wrestling is perfect 3-0 at home quadrangular
Bearcats defeat Princeton, Liberty and Merchant Marines

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton wrestling (7-2) won all three of its matches in a home quadrangular Saturday afternoon at West Gym. The Bearcats defeated the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (35-10), Princeton (28-15) and Liberty (25-15).

Senior 184-pound Josh Patterson pinned both his opponents to improve to 61-8 in career duals. Patterson, ranked 15th in the country, needed just 37 seconds to pin his Princeton opponent and then ended his Liberty match in 2:14 with his fourth pin of the season. He is 13-3 overall, 6-0 in duals this season.

Junior 141-pound Anwar Goeres and redshirt freshman Garrett Morabito each went 2-0. Goeres had a pin and a decision to improve to 18-5 overall, 6-2 in duals. Morabito earned two decisions at 133 pounds.

"Our team wrestled very well and showed a lot of improvement," head coach Pat Popolizio said. "I was extremely impressed with Anwar (Goeres) and Garrett (Morabito), both going 2-0 and helping us secure the wins over Princeton and Liberty. We're happy to be 7-2 right now. It shows we are headed in the right direction."

Binghamton next competes at the Wilkes Open on December 28 and the Midlands Championship on December 29-30 in Evanston, Ill.
