BU wrestler Vinson named to CAA Preseason All-Freshman Team
Whitney Point native set to begin collegiate career at 149 pounds

CAA Release

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton University freshman wrestler Donnie Vinson has been named to the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason All-Freshman Team, the conference announced Tuesday.

“Donnie is coming off an exceptional high school career," head coach Pat Popolizio said. "Our goals for him are to expand on those achievements and compete for a national title in the years to come. Thus far he has been very impressive in the room and has shown signs of being able to compete at the highest levels."

Binghamton will open its season by hosting the Brute/BU Open on November 15. The unattached tournament will take place in the Events Center - the first wrestling event to ever be scheduled in the five-year-old building. One week later, BU will host the Sprawl & Brawl at West Gym, where Penn State and North Carolina highlight the field.

The Bearcats return eight starters and 16 letterwinners from last year's team that went 13-12, placed sixth in the CAA and advanced two wrestlers (Josh Patterson and Kyle Fried) to the NCAA Championship.
