BU wrestling lineup starting to take shape after intersquad wrestle-offs
Bearcats host season-opening BU/Brute Open Saturday at Events Center

VESTAL, N.Y. -- As the season-opening meet draws near, the Binghamton wrestling team continued to jockey for starting positions during Monday's "wrestle-offs" in the West Gym practice room.

The Bearcats begin competition on Saturday with the Binghamton/Brute Open, held at the Events Center. The double-elimination tournament is the first wrestling event to be staged at the Events Center in the building's five-year history. Individuals from 18 teams will compete: American, Army, Boston, Bloomsburg, Brown, Cornell, Columbia, Cortland, Drexel, Harvard, Princeton, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Springfield, Shippensburg, Western New England, Hofstra and Binghamton. The BU wrestlers will compete unattached.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students. The matches begin at 9 a.m.

Binghamton returns eight starters and 16 letterwinners from last year's team that went 13-12, placed sixth in the CAA and advanced two wrestlers (Josh Patterson and Kyle Fried) to the NCAA Championship. Patterson is ranked 18th in the country at 184 pounds in the latest Intermat/NWCA national poll.
