Release: November 12, 2008 VESTAL, N.Y. -- As the season-opening meet draws near, the Binghamton wrestling team continued to jockey for starting positions during Monday's "wrestle-offs" in the West Gym practice room. The
Bearcats begin competition on Saturday with the Binghamton/Brute
Open, held at the Events Center. The double-elimination tournament
is the first wrestling event to be staged at the Events Center
in the building's five-year history. Individuals from 18 teams
will compete: American, Army, Boston, Bloomsburg, Brown, Cornell,
Columbia, Cortland, Drexel, Harvard, Princeton, Rutgers, Sacred
Heart, Springfield, Shippensburg, Western New England, Hofstra
and Binghamton. The BU wrestlers will compete unattached. Binghamton returns eight starters and 16 letterwinners from last year's team that went 13-12, placed sixth in the CAA and advanced two wrestlers (Josh Patterson and Kyle Fried) to the NCAA Championship.
