BU women's soccer heads into postseason on roll
Young Bearcats have won five of last six games

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer will make its sixth consecutive America East playoff appearance on Sunday when it hosts No. 3 Maine in the semifinals at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Head coach Sarah McClellan's squad, picked to finish fifth in the Coaches' Preseason Poll, instead went 6-2 to place second in the nine-team league. The Bearcats are seeded No. 2 in the field. The winner of the BU-Maine semifinal will meet either top-seeded Boston or fourth-seeded Stony Brook in the championship game.

Back on October 11, BU edged Maine 1-0 in Orono, despite being outshot 25-5. Freshman midfielder Emily Pape scored the game-winner in the 30th minute. The all-time series between the Bearcats and Black Bears is nearly even, with BU holding a 5-4-1 margin. The last time the teams met in the post season was back in the 2005 semifinals, when Maine advanced on penalty kicks after a scoreless draw.

Binghamton's starting lineup features five freshmen and seven underclassmen in all, a testament to McClellan's recruiting and the program's bright future. The 2009 season has already resulted in several noteworthy achievements:

Most overall wins (9) since 2005 team won 10 games
Best conference record (6-2) in eight years of America East membership
Highest conference place (2nd) since 2004 team captured regular season and tournament titles
Sixth consecutive America East playoff appearance
Third straight America East semifinal appearance and fourth in last five years
First home playoff game since 2004 (2-0 in home playoff games)
