Binghamton women's soccer earns 1-0 shutout over Albany

Box Score

VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Kelly Burnham (Endicott, N.Y.) netted the game's lone goal in the 37th minute and Binghamton (4-6-2, 1-2 America East) earned a 1-0 win over visiting Albany (4-8-1, 1-2 AE) Sunday afternoon at West Gym Field. The Bearcats have never lost to their longtime SUNY rivals, owning a 15-0-1 all-time record.

Burnham capitalized on a loose ball following a BU corner kick and banged home a short-range shot for her third goal of the season.

"It was a tough game and a decent result," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "We're happy to get our first conference win. We needed to finish our chances better but a win is a win at this point. We'll take it and look ahead to New Hampshire."

Binghamton outshot Albany 12-11.

Senior goalkeeper Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y.) needed to make just one save for her third shutout of the season.

The Bearcats continue their three-game homestand when New Hampshire arrives for a 4 p.m. kickoff on Thursday. Binghamton is 6-0-2 in its last eight home games dating back to last season.
