ALBANY, N.Y. -- Host Albany (4-6-3, 1-3 AE) tallied a pair of second-half goals to defeat Binghamton (2-9-2, 1-3 AE) 3-1 Thursday afternoon in an America East women's soccer match. The defeat snapped BU's 11-game win streak against its longtime SUNY rival.
Albany, which outshot Binghamton 14-11, opened the scoring in the 20th minute and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Great Danes made it 2-0 with a goal just 3:40 into the second half.
Sophomore midfielder Amanda Casares (Rahway, N.J.) put the Bearcats on the board with a blast to the upper corner at the 50:55 mark. But with BU pressing for an equalizer late in the game, the Great Danes scored an insurance goal on a 30-yard shot in the 82nd minute.
Binghamton sophomore goalkeeper Erin Iman (Bel Air, Md.) made six saves in the game.
Binghamton nexts hosts Stony Brook on October 18 at 7 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
