VESTAL, N.Y. - Junior midfielder forward Kim Povill (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored twice - including a 40-yard shot early in the second half - to carry Binghamton women's soccer past visiting Fairleigh Dickinson 3-0 Friday afternoon at West Gym Field. With the win, the Bearcats extended their home unbeaten string to six games dating back to last season (4-0-2).
Povill opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when she beat the keeper from the left side to stake BU to a 1-0 halftime lead. Then in the 60th minute, Povill caught the Knights' keeper off her line and let loose on a long shot that sailed over the goalie's head for her third tally of the season.
Junior midfielder Tricia Reed (Oswego, N.Y.) completed the scoring four minutes later. Reed took a cross from junior forward Betsy Harris (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and headed home her second goal of the season.
Senior keeper Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y.) made four saves for her first shutout of the season.
The Bearcats next play at Long Island University on Sunday.
