Women's soccer team signs five high school players

Vestal, N.Y. — The Binghamton women’s soccer team has received a national letter of intent from five high school players as part of the early signing period. They will join the Bearcats for the start of the 2003 season this coming fall.

Danielle White (Haddonfield, N.J./ Haddon Township) is a forward who holds the Haddon Township school records with 65 career goals and 40 career assists. She led the Colonial Conference in scoring with 22 goals and 21 assists in 2002 as well as 23 goals and 12 assists in 2001. In her senior season, White was named first-team All-South Jersey by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Newark Star Ledger and the South Jersey Coaches’ Association. She led her squad to a four-year mark of 69-13-4.

“We are really excited to have Danielle join our program,” head coach Jeff Leightman said. “Her stats speak for themself but the thing that drew us to Danielle is her versatility. We are really expecting a bright future for her at Binghamton.”

Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Olympia ) is a goalie who was named first-team all-county and fifth-team all-state her junior season. In her senior campaign, she was named second-team all-county and honorable mention all-state. She posted 201 saves last season and recorded three shutouts in leading her squad to only the fourth sectional win in its history.

“We love Kristie’s competitive spirit,” Leightman said. “We are looking forward to her coming in and competing for our starting goalie position.”

Erica Eddy (Norwich, N.Y./ Norwich) is a defender who was named to the 2001 and 2002 NYS Class B All-State Team. She also was a three-year all-conference pick and a four-year captain. This past summer, she was the co-captain on the Central New York Team that won the gold medal at the Empire State Games.

“Erica is a strong local personality,” Leightman said. “She will certainly add strength to our team defense.”

Lia Cohen (Staten Island, N.J./ St. Joseph’s by the Sea) is a forward/ midfielder who was a Staten Island Advance All-Star in 2001 and 2002. Her squad won the won the CHSAA New York City championship in 1999, 2000 and 2001. In her junior season, she led the league in scoring with 14 goals and four assists.

“Lia possesses good attacking skills and personality on the flank,” Leightman said “She will help solidify that position.”

Jodi Gladstone (East Brunswick/ East Brunswick) is a midfielder who was a three-year varsity starter at East Brunswick High School. She also played on a club team that was a New Jersey State Cup Quarterfinalist. In addition, Gladstone was also on the Jersey Crew of the Olympic Development Program (ODP).

“ We are pleased to Jodi coming to Binghamton,” Leightman said. “Her club and ODP experience will really add quality to our team.”
