BU women's soccer concludes non-conference slate with 1-0 loss at Lehigh

Box Score

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Binghamton women's soccer (4-4-2) dropped its third consecutive game, falling 1-0 to host Lehigh (7-1-1) Friday evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Mountain Hawks are ranked 13th in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the lastest poll.

Lehigh freshman forward Christin Johnson scored the game-winning goal at the 80:23 mark, taking a pass from second-year defender Andrea Yetter and finding the net.

"It was a well-played game," 'head coach Jeff Leightman said. "It was two good teams going at it, back and forth and it could've gone either way. We made mistakes on their goal and we didn't generate enough of a quality attack. It's disappointing. But Sunday (conference opener against Vermont) begins a new season for us."

Junior keeper Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y.) made three saves for the Bearcats, who were outshot 19-9.

"It was good to get the result we wanted against a well-coached team," Lehigh head coach Manny Oudin said.

Binghamton returns home to face Vermont in the America East opener at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Bearcats are the reigning regular season and conference tournament champions.

The three-game losing streak ties the longest in BU's Division I tenure. The Bearcats dropped their final three games of the 2002 season...The team's four-game winless streak is the longest in head coach Jeff Leightman's eight-year tenure... The Bearcats have scored just three goals in the team's last four games (0-3-1).
