Binghamton women's soccer blanked by Lehigh on road 1-0
Hawks net winner in first half, deal Bearcats third one-goal loss of season

Box Score

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Reigning Patriot League champion Lehigh scored the game's lone goal in the 35th minute and edged visiting Binghamton women's soccer (2-3) 1-0 Friday night from the Ulrich Sports Complex. It was Lehigh's 10th straight win at home.

The Hawks were the recipients of a fortuitous bounce on the first-half goal. A long service into the box bounded over the head of BU sophomore keeper Carrie Martin and into the net.

The Bearcats thought they had the equalizer midway through the second half when sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Cook headed in a cross from freshman back Connie Gormley. After a celebration and delay, the goal was disallowed on an offsides call.

"I was proud of our effort, especially in the second half against an NCAA-caliber team," head coach Sarah McClellan said. "We played a phenominal half with a lot of passion and commitment. I thought we competed very well against a good Lehigh team and took some significant steps forward in our improvement."

Martin made six saves for the Bearcats, who were outshot 14-7. The Lehigh keeper was called on to make just one save.
