VESTAL, N.Y. - Freshman Ariana Calderon scored the game-winning goal 2:13 into the first overtime, lifting host Long Island (2-0) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (1-1) in a non-conference soccer match Friday evening.
After 92 minutes of scoreless soccer, Calderon found the top of the net from 23 yards out to give the Blackbirds the victory.
Binghamton goalkeeper Jen McEachron (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) made six saves.
"Our girls hung in and battled and just came up a little short," first-year head coach Sarah McClellan said. "It was a very physical game and our girls stepped up to the challenge. This game will make us stronger."
The teams combined for 29 fouls in the contest.
The Bearcats will continue their road trip with a match against NJIT on Sunday.
