Binghamton women's soccer defeats main 1-0 in key road game
ORONO, Maine-- Senior midfielder Deli Plourde (Clifton Park N.Y.) scored her second goal of the season, leading Binghamton (7-2-1, 1-1-0 AE) to a 1-0 win at Maine (7-3-1, 1-1-0 AE) in an America East Conference women's soccer game on Sunday morning. Dating back to 2002, it marked the first time in three attempts that the Bearcats have defeated the Black Bears.
"Today was a great soccer game between two good conference teams," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "We haven't been able to pull out a road win like this since we joined the America East so we really needed the three points today."
After a scoreless first half, Plourde took a pass from freshman forward Kim Povill (Massapequa, N.Y.) and blasted it into the upper right corner of the net at the 46:09 mark. It was Povill's team-high sixth assist and 14th point of the season.
Binghamton was outshot 11-7 but sophomore goalkeeper Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded two saves to post her second solo shutout of the season.
Binghamton travels to UMBC on Friday at 4 p.m. for another conference game.
