Bearcats beat Mt. St. Mary's 2-0

Rosey Mustafa Vestal, N.Y. — Senior midfielder Rosey Mustafa (Montebello, N.Y./ Suffern) and freshman midfielder Lauren Massey (Burlington, Ontario/ Notre Dame) each netted a second-half goal, leading Binghamton (2-0) to a 2-0 win over visiting Mt. St. Mary’s (0-1) today at West Gym Field. With the win, the Bearcats are off to their first 2-0 start since 1997.

Binghamton outshot the visiting Mountaineers 24-6 but for two-thirds of the game, was unable to get on the scoreboard.

“Mt. St. Mary’s played hard and frustrated us for most of the game. We've got to give them credit,” said head coach Jeff Leightman. “We were able to switch up our attatck and come together in the final part of the game.”

Mustafa’s goal, which came at the 60:57 mark and was assisted by sophomore forward Tatiana Mathelier (Pomona, N.Y./ Saddle River Day (N.J.) and junior forward Tracy Kasmarcik (Binghamton, N.Y./ Susquehanna Valley). From 10 yards out, Mustafa got the pass and fired the ball past Mt. St. Mary’s goalkeeper Naomi Campano.

Rosey MustafaAt the 84:32 mark, Massey added an insurance goal off a rebound. It was her second goal in as many games.

Campano finished the game with 10 saves, seven of which came in the second half. Binghamton senior goalkeeper Lauren Cherry (Wyncote, Pa./ Cheltenham) made four saves.

The Bearcats’ next game is against St. Francis (Pa.) at home on Thursday at 4 p.m.
