Score
Lewiston,
N.Y. Visiting Binghamton took an early 1-0 advantage then
got two late goals to shut out Niagara 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
It was the first time that the Bearcats have recorded a three-goal
game since netting seven goals against Albany on Oct. 2 of last
season.
"Coming
off of Friday's game against Syracuse, I was really pleased with
how we played today," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "We
cleaned up some things but what really made a difference was
how we finished the game. Last year, we were unable to close
games as strong so getting those two late goals was great."
Senior forward Tracy Kasmarcik (Binghamton, N.Y./ Susquehanna
Valley) got things started for Binghamton with an unassisted
goal 27:16 into the game. Despite outshooting Niagara 12-6 in
the first half, however, the Bearcats could not extend the lead.
Still nursing a 1-0 advantage, Binghamton iced the game with
a pair of goal in the final seven minutes. First, sophomore midfielder
Lauren Massey (Burlington, Ontario, Notre Dame) fired
a shot from 30 yards out to extend the lead to 2-0 at the 83:11
mark. Just 1:21 later, freshman midfielder Lia Cohen (Staten
Island, N.Y./ St. Joseph-by-the-Sea) took a pass from freshman
forward Danielle White (Haddon Township, N.J.) to make
the score 3-0.
For the game, Binghamton outshot Niagara 20-13.
Freshman goalie Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y./ Greek Olympia)
made seven saves for her first career solo shutout.
Binghamton hosts St. John's on Friday at 4 p.m.
NOTE: Kasmarcik and White lead Binghamton in scoring with
a goal and an assist. |
