BU women's soccer blanks Niagara 2-0 on road

NIAGARA, N.Y. - Visiting Binghamton (1-3-1) netted a goal in each half and earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 triumph over Niagara (2-3).

Senior midfielder Amanda Casares took a thru ball from sophomore striker AnnMarie Rizzi and chipped a 20-yard shot over the Niagara keeper to open the scoring at the 34:11 mark. Freshman forward Jamie Holliday added an insurance goal on a breakaway at the 55:45 mark for her first collegiate goal. Senior back Erica Goldberg won a header to spring Holliday loose.

Senior Jen McEachron and junior Erin Iman split their second shutout of the season. McEachron made three saves in the first half to lower her ERA to 0.40. Iman made five saves over the final 45 minutes.

"It was a great overall team effort tonight," head coach Sarah McClellan said. "We got contributions from every player and I couldn't be prouder of the effort and performance."

Niagara outshot Binghamton 16-7.

The Bearcats continue their Western New York swing with a game at Buffalo on Sunday.
