Binghamton women's soccer drops 1-0 heartbreaker in 2007 opener
After 114 minutes of scoreless soccer, Northeastern nets winner in double overtime

AKRON, Ohio-- Sophomore midfielder Sofia Palmquist scored 4:01 into the second sudden-death overtime period, leading Northeastern (1-0-0) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (0-1-0) in women's soccer action on Friday in the first round of the Akron Westfield Cup.

"We brought a good mentality to the game today but didn't get the result we wanted," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "We served the ball well in the offensive end but we were not able to get the shots off that we wanted."

Northeastern outshot Binghamton 13-4, including 5-0 during the two overtime periods.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Iman (Bel Air, Md.) recorded five saves in her first career start for Binghamton.

The Bearcats square off against the host Zips on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the final round of the Akron Westfield Cup.

Game notes: The game marked the first time that the Bearcats have faced the Huskies since Northeastern left the America East Conference (for the Colonial Athletic Association) two years ago. BU is now 2-4 all-time against the Huskies.
