Bearcats add two more high school standouts for 2002

Vestal, N.Y. — The Binghamton women’s soccer team has received a national letter of intent from high school standout Vicky Vernicek, a back from Randolph High School in Randolph, N.J. In addition, the squad has received a commitment from Kelly Sanders, a midfielder from Ramsey High School in Ramsey, N.J. Both players will join the Bearcats for the 2002 season.

Vernicek is a two-time, first-team all-state selection. She was also named all-county twice and all-conference three times. Her squad captured the 2000 state title as well as the last three county and conference titles respectively.

“Vicky is a tremendously versatile player who can play in both the backfield and midfield,” said Binghamton head coach Jeff Leightman. “ We are pleased that she has chosen to come to Binghamton. She will be a great asset for the future of our program.”

Sanders finished her high school career with 36 goals and 33 assists, including 18 goals and 10 assists her final year. Also, in her senior season, she was named first-team all-county and first-team all-state group II.

“Kelly is a good athlete,” said Leightman. “We are happy she is coming to Binghamton. She will play a nice role in the continued development of our program.”
