Binghamton women's soccer blanked by Vermont on the road, 1-0

Box Score

BURLINGTON, Vt.--Host Vermont scored the game's lone goal in the 68th minute and posted a 1-0 victory over Binghamton (10-5-1, 4-3 AE) in an America East women's soccer game Sunday afternoon. The Catamounts (9-8-1, 4-4 AE) outshot BU, 17-11 and dealt the Bearcats their second shutout loss in the last three games. The defeat complicates Binghamton's hopes of reaching the conference playoffs for the first time in three seasons.

"We missed a couple of absolute goals," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "We just looked like we had no legs today. We had a chance to clinch and didn't perform well ... didn't get it done. Now the road is tough. We definitely need another win and even then might need some help. It's too bad."

Sophomore Kristy Doerner (Shoreham, N.Y.) made her second straight start in goal in place of injured Kristie Bowers, and recorded six saves.

Binghamton's post-season hopes now rest with a pair of home games against two of the elite teams in the conference - Boston (10/28) and Northeastern (10/30) ... The Bearcats are a combined 0-5 against the two Boston-area schools, and have been outscored 11-1 in those games ... The top six teams advance to the America East championship tournament ... Binghamton is currently in a tie for fourth place pending the outcome of league games later Sunday.
