VESTAL, N.Y. -- Senior forward Kim Povill (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored twice in a four-minute span early in the second half, and Binghamton (2-7-2, 1-1 AE) held off a late Vermont rally to post a 4-2 victory over the visiting Catamounts (1-9-1, 0-2 AE) Thursday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
The Bearcats held a comfortable 3-0 lead after Povill netted her second goal in the 52nd minute. But Vermont senior Carson Laderoute scored two goals in a six minute span late in the game to cut Binghamton's lead to 3-2. With the Catamounts pressing for the equalizer in the closing minute, BU capitalized when senior forward Danielle White (Haddon Township, N.J.) launched a 50-yard shot past the forward-pressing Vermont keeper. The ball rolled nearly half the field before settling into the net with four seconds remaining.
The teams combined for five second-half goals and wound up with 18 shots apiece in the match.
"I'm really proud of how we battled and gutted it out in the second half as Vermont made their comeback," head coach Jeff Leightman said.
Povill's first goal of the game came in the 49th minute off a pass from senior midfielder Tricia Reed (Oswego, N.Y.). Just 3:40 later, White fed Povill for her second goal of the game and fourth of the season.
Senior back Katie Kerrigan (Middleton, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Bearcats, converting a penalty kick with 31 seconds remaining in the first half.
Binghamton next hosts Hartford Sunday at 1 p.m.
