Binghamton women's soccer blanks Wagner 4-0
BU sister duo lead Bearcats to first victory of 2006

Box Score

VESTAL, N.Y. - BU sister duo Betsy and Mackenzie Harris (Chappaqua, N.Y.) combined for a goal and two assists leading Binghamton past visiting Wagner 4-0 in a non-conference women's soccer game Sunday afternoon from West Gym Field. The Bearcats' triumph improves their record to 1-3-2, while the Seahawks remain winless at 0-4-0.

Binghamton opened the scoring just 7:46 into the contest when junior midfielder Tricia Reed (Oswego, N.Y.) headed a beautifully delivered corner from classmate Betsy Harris to put the Bearcats ahead 1-0. The score would remain that way until the 42nd minute, when this time Mackenzie joined in on the action, finding the back of the net from ten yards out to give BU a 2-0 advantage headed into the locker room.

"Obviously, it is a good feeling anytime you can get this kind of result," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "It was a bit of an ugly game. I was a bit disappointed with our play in the first half, but I thought we came out sharper and more confident after the break and were able to impose our will a bit. That being said, there is still a lot of room for improvement to prepare for conference play."

After senior midfielder Kelly Burnham (Endicott, N.Y.) extended the Bearcats' lead to 3-0 in the 55th minute, Betsy again helped BU to convert off a corner, serving a ball across the box to sophomore forward Kelly Haslinger (Boston, N.Y.), who promptly sent home her second goal of the year to create the final margin. Haslinger also assisted on Burnham's goal.

Between the pipes, senior keepers Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y.) and Kristy Doerner (Shoreham, N.Y.) combined on the shutout, while their Seahawks counterpart Ashley Wilson turned away four BU efforts in a losing effort.

Binghamton outshot Wagner 12-2 on the afternoon.

The Bearcats are back in action Friday afternoon when they host Fairleigh Dickinson at 4 p.m.
