No. 18 West Virginia blanks BU women's soccer 4-0

Box Score

MORGANTOWN, Va. - Unbeaten No. 18 West Virginia (4-0) peppered Binghamton women's soccer (0-3-1) with 44 shots en route to a 4-0 victory Sunday afternoon from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Mountaineers extended a 1-0 halftime lead with three goals in the second half. The Bearcats played without three starters and lost a fourth to injury in the first half.

"We were doing pretty well in the first half," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "But we started making mistakes in the second half. Overall, I was pleased with the effort today though. Our heart was there and we were better organized than Friday. Hopefully we can get healthy for Wednesday."

West Virginia opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute and carried a 1-0 lead into intermission. Then the Mountaineers exploded for three goals in an 11-minute span early in the second half to put the game away.

Senior goalkeeper Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y.) made 12 saves.

After four straight road games to open the season, BU returns home to host Syracuse at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
