Women's swimming and diving earn split in Senior Day tri-meet
Bearcat women earn split, topping Stony Brook but falling to Lafayette
FULL MEET RESULTS
Vestal, N.Y.-- Binghamton women's swimming and diving earned a split, topping conference foe Stony Brook (83-57) but falling short against Lafayette (97-43) in a tri-meet on Senior Day Wednesday afternoon from the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center.
The Bearcats swept both relays and took 11 individual events on their way to victory over the Seawolves.
"Our women really deserved this win against Stony Brook today," said head coach Sean Clark. "It wasn't easy, but they pulled together and did what they needed to do. There's no doubt though, that the Seawolves will be strong at the conference meet in three weeks. Lafayette's women were just too fast for us today."
BU's lone overall winner came on the boards where sophomore diver Kate Hassfurter (Horseheads, N.Y.) totaled 263.4 points en route to capturing the three-meter board competition. Hassfurter also finished second in the one-meter competition with 236.1 points.
Freshman Allyce Brand (Highland Park, Ill.) swam to two second-place finishes in the 100 (1:10.49) and 200-yard (2:34.21) breaststroke events, while freshman Stephanie Gomez (Tarrytown, N.Y.) and junior Nicole Sweeney (Commack, N.Y.) both also earned runnerup honors. Gomez was second in the 200 fly (2:22.34), while Sweeney claimed second in the 1,000 free in 11:14.86.
Sophomore Aleksandra Grubic (Split, Croatia) and freshman Lindsay Wright (Johnson City, N.Y.) both earned a pair of third place finishes. Grubic in the 100 fly (1:02.74) and 200 free (2:00.42) and Wright in the 50 (25.68) and 100 (55.36) freestyle events.
Sophomore Heather Jennings (Ridge, N.Y.) also posted a third-place finish, touching third in the 500 free in 5:29.16.
The split moves Binghamton's record to 2-6 in dual meets on the season.
The Bearcat women hit the waters of the Reilly Center Pool this Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. when they travel to St. Bonaventure for dual meet action.
