Senior captain has led the Bearcats to first 3-0 start since 2002-03

America East release

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. -- Senior captain Amanda Ciccone was named America East Female Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. Ciccone won three individual events for Binghamton last Saturday en route to defeating visiting Marist, 167-133.

"Against Marist, Amanda handled a tough dual meet schedule of events with great poise," head coach Sean Clark said. "The 200 free and 50 free are in the same segment and then she finished with back-to-back events with the 200 IM and the 400 free relay. All four wins were essential in determining the outcome of the meet."

Ciccone began her day by winning the 200 free with a time of 1:53.19. Her time in the event was a lifetime best and placed her second on BU's all-time top-10 list. She continued her stellar day with a victory in the 50 free, finishing in 24.11. Ciccone, the school-record holder in the 200 IM, touched first in the race with a time of 2:08.68 to wrap up her day individually.

"Her leadership this year has been remarkable in and out of the pool," Clark continued. "It's great to see her be recognized for her tremendous efforts."

As the anchor of the 400 free relay team, Ciccone ensured the Binghamton victory by helping the foursome take first place with a time of 3:36.87. The combination of Ciccone, Tiffany Siu, Olivia Baczek and Caitlin Nelson are undefeated this season in the free relay.

Ciccone's three victories against Marist marks the third straight week she has won multiple events and the second time this season she has won at least three races.

With her lightening fast day in the water, Ciccone helped Binghamton avenge last year's loss to Marist. The Red Foxes defeated BU 173-125, easily winning the meet. Ciccone earned significant points in each of her events to give Binghamton the 34-point victory.

Ciccone and the Binghamton swimming and diving program will look to continue their impressive start on Saturday, Dec. 4. The Bearcats will welcome Cornell to the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center for its fourth dual meet of the season. The women will be in search of its first-ever 4-0 start since the program began competing on the Division I level. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
