Holmes, 800 Free Relay claim gold medals on Day 2 of ECAC Championships
Bearcat men stand in seventh place, women in 12th

Day 2 Results

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. -- Senior swimmer David Holmes (Doncaster, England) won the 100-yard butterfly pacing the Binghamton University men's and women's performances on the second day of competition from the ECAC Open Swimming & Diving Championships at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool.

Heading into the final day of competition on Sunday, the Bearcat men sit in seventh place in the 16-team men's field with a total of 236 points, while the women are in 12th of 16 teams with 88 points. Harvard leads the 16-team men's field with 347 points, while Marist paces the women's side with 449.5 total points.

Holmes notched his second individual title of the meet finishing the 100 fly in a NCAA 'B' cut time of 48.18. Senior co-captain Brian Koizim (White Plains, N.Y.) capped off BU's 1-2 finish in the event, clocking in at 49.79. Fellow senior co-captain Trevor Stone (Windsor, N.Y.) added a ninth place finish, winning the consolation final in 50.46.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Holmes and Koizim partnered up with sophomore Brian Koralewski (Floral Park, N.Y.) and junior Michael Britvan (Pleasantville, N.Y.) to take home top honors. The quartet touched in a time 6:46.90, over eight seconds ahead of the field.

Andrew Palumbo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) qualified for the 100 breast final, placing fourth in 58.59.

On the women's side, freshman Allyce Brand (Highland Park, Illinois) qualified for the finals of the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing fifth in the ocnsolation final and 13th overall in a time of 1:09.78.

In the three-meter diving championships, sophomore Katherine Hassfurter (Horseheads, N.Y.) andAnne Malvasi (Liverpool, N.Y.) took sixth hand seventh place, respectively.

The Bearcats' medley relay quartet (Sweeney, Gelfand, Ferrara and Brand) opened up the first final of the evening with an 11th place finish in 2:02.49. Their counterparts on the men's side (Britvan, Palumbo, Stone and Rogan) followed up with a seventh place performance in 1:37.21.

Sunday's prelims begin at 9 a.m. with the Finals starting at 4 p.m.
