Bearcats defeat Albany 4-0 in America East quarterfinals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Second-seeded Binghamton (15-7) made quick work of seventh-seeded Albany Friday morning in the opening match of the America East Women's Tennis Championship, winning 4-0 to advance to Saturday's semifinals. The Bearcats, who extended their school-record win streak to 12 matches, will meet #3 New Hampshire Saturday at noon at the Connecticut Tennis Center. The Wildcats advanced with a 4-1 win over #6 seed Hartford. If the match on Saturday is forced indoors due to inclement weather, the start time will be moved from noon to 1 p.m.

"We had some nerves, but it was good to get that first win under our belt," head coach Jamie Campbell said. "I was happy with our doubles play. We played much better today than our home dual with Albany. I think this match helped settle us down a bit. Now we're ready to go."

In doubles, BU captured the point with wins at the second and third positions. Senior captain Amy Weissberg (Syosset, N.Y.) and junior Janine Sadaka (Great Neck, N.Y.) rolled to an 8-2 win. At the third spot, senior Kristin Jobe (Baytown, Texas) and sophomore Amy Linda (Bronx, N.Y.) teamed for an 8-1 win.

In singles, BU received wins at the 4-5-6 spots before the match was clinched and the remaining matches were halted. Brill posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4, Jobe won her match 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, and Linda didn't drop a single game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at the sixth spot.
