Bates, Bykovskaya named to America East All-Academic Team
Two honorees mark first multiple selection year in program history

America East Release

VESTAL, N.Y. -- A pair of Binghamton University women's tennis players earned America East All-Academic accolades, the conference office announced Tuesday. Senior Lauren Bates and junior Marina Bykovskaya were named to the All-Academic Team, which consisted of six selections in all. With two honorees, Binghamton boasted more all-academic selections than any of its conference opponents. It also marks the first year BU received multiple selections in its Division I history.

Bates, who collected first-team all-conference honors at first singles and first doubles following the America East Championship, adds an all-academic accolade to a stellar senior season. As an English and Spanish double major, Bates posted a 3.44 cumulative GPA through the fall 2010 semester. She was a member of the America East Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore and junior. Bates ended her collegiate campaign ranked second all-time in singles and doubles victories with 88 and 81, respectively.

Bykovskaya racked up her second America East All-Academic Team honor in the past two years. One of two repeat selections on this year's team, Bykovskaya has a 3.65 cumulative GPA with a major in management and a concentration in global management. Bykovskaya was a second-team all-conference honoree at fifth singles. She recorded a 21-13 overall singles record, including a 12-8 mark in dual matches. Bykovskaya was recognized for her academic achievement at the school's annual awards banquet two weeks ago with the SUNY Chancellor Scholar-Athlete award.

Bates and Bykovskaya were two of five Bearcats to secure all-conference distinction two weeks ago, where senior Anna Edelman took home the Player of the Year award and head coach Libby McGovern earned the Coach of the Year honor. BU notched its fourth straight runner-up performance in the America East Championships this season.
